Hotel Yazidi, directed by Nikos Pilos

We chronicled the life of a group of around 800 Yazidis who had survived the massacre by ISIS in Shingal, northern Iraq and after fleeing to Europe, found themselves in Greece, among the refugee wave of 2015-2016.
Being a unique ethno-religious group with strong traditions, Yazidis faced persecution even inside the camps by other refugees and migrants, seen as “infidels”, so they were moved to live by themselves in a resort complex by lake Volvi in northern Greece, once thriving with tourists but later abandoned.
There, they are trying to rebuild their lives and move on, Among them, rape and torture victims, families torn apart in the hands of the jihadists. Meanwhile, lately back in Shingal, Iraqi forces unearth mass graves with hundreds of Yazidi victims of ISIS.
